In Bengal
Not a side snack. The spice system.
Across Bangladesh, West Bengal and Tripura, the fried savoury mix sold elsewhere as Bombay mix goes by one name: chanachur. It's what comes out when guests sit down, and what keeps a long adda going between cups of cha.
It's also the heat inside jhalmuri — puffed rice tossed in mustard oil with onion and green chilli. Take the chanachur out and you're left with plain muri and onion. Alpha Chanachur is one of the group's most established lines outside the IBNSINA name.

On the table
Four ways Bangladesh eats it
01
Straight from the pack
With a cup of cha at five o’clock. The most common way, by far.
02
Jhalmuri
Muri, a drizzle of mustard oil, chopped onion, green chilli, coriander, a squeeze of lemon — then two big handfuls of chanachur.
03
Ghoti gorom
Chanachur with chopped onion, green chilli, raw mango and mustard oil. No muri.
04
A crunchy topping
Scattered over chira bhaja, a cucumber-tomato salad, or a plate of chotpoti.
